180th Lucan South Beavers Camp in Larch Hill
Last weekend, Sat 6th and Sun 7th June, our Beaver section of 6 to 9 year olds held an overnight camp at the Larch Hill campsite. For many of the Beavers this was their first time camping outdoors in a tent, and for some even their first time away from home overnight!
We arrived on Saturday around noon, and set about getting our campsite ready, the Beavers putting up their sleeping tents with some assistance from Scouts, and the adults getting the kitchen and eating areas set up. After lunch we were straight into activities – fun in the Beaver playground, grass sledding, water fight while the sun was shining, human maze and swinging over mud! Then dinner, a party, camp fire and finally a night hike through the woods before going to bed tired and happy!
On Sunday we had lots more activities and team challenges, including cooking eggs in orange skins on the fire, before having lunch and starting to take down our campsite.
We finished off the weekend with two investitures of newer members and presentations of some badges that the Beavers had earned over the weekend for camping and backwoods skills.
We had some big awards to present also, as 5 of the Beavers had earned their Beaver Chief Scout award, which is the highest award that a Beaver can receive in Scouting. They were the first youth members to achieve this standard in the group so huge congratulations to Conor, Molly, Tadhg, Lucy and Adam for earning this award!
Thanks to all the adult leaders who assisted in making this a great camp for the Beavers, all well deserved a good night sleep on Sunday!!
