142nd Esker and 180th Lucan South Scouts helping in the Lucan Festival
As part of our ongoing community awareness programme and for the fourth year running our Scout group, 142nd Esker and the 180th Lucan South Scouts have had a tremendous response from the public for our involvement with the Lucan Festival.
This involvement started in July of this year when I attended a meeting with the Lucan Festival Committee and discussed the activities our Scout group would be taking part in.
Saturday 12th September 2015
Two of our Scouters (adult leaders) and Scouts from the Beavers, Cubs, Scout and Venture Sections where working with the Festival Committee on the grounds of the Italian Ambassador's residence in Lucan Village setting up the choir tent for the committee and acting as stewards for the walk in the grounds of Lucan House.
Sunday 13th September 2015
Our day started with 10 Scouters and 20 Scouts from our beaver, Cub, Scout and Venture sections collecting our camp craft supplies from Lucan House and bringing them to the village green to start building our exhibition camp site, this involved setting up a Public Relations tent, A teddy bear picnic area, our famous "Splat the Scout Game" a sisal trail game, a gate structure and our flag stand along with children's play areas.
While all this was being built our scouts also helped the committee with setting up stalls for the other local business and organisations invited to the Lucan Festival, setting up the Church of Ireland hall, moving and fixing tables and helping to sell ducks for the Duck Race on the Griffeen.
Our site was visited by a very large portion of the public who attended the festival along with some notable VIP's such as Minister for Justice Francis Fitzgerald, The Mayor of South Dublin Cllr. Guss O'Connell and Cllr. Liona O'Toole.
All of this community engagement allowed us Scouts and Scouters an opportunity to show a small part of scouting and its traditions to our local community.
