Cub Scouts

Welcome to the 180th Cub Section Information page. Cub Scouts range from 9 to 11 years and in the 180th Lucan South, we meet on Wednesdays from 7.15pm to 8.45pm in the Bush Centre, Balgaddy. The Cub Scout adventure is full of fun and exploration. We are all about finding out about new things and new ways of having fun. We also try to encourage cubs to become more responsible so that we can do more things like going on longer hikes and camps during their time with us.

Cubs scouts are organised into small groups called Sixes with each group having a leader who is called the Sixer. The Sixer has a helper which is called a Seconder and together their job is to look after the rest of their group. From time to time we hold meetings with all the Sixers so that they can let us know things they would like to do during the cub year. This meeting is called a Sixer Council.

As a cub grows and develops in his/her journey in cubs they will be given additional jobs/responsibilities when they seem ready for this. It is the job of the leaders to give each cub a chance to be involved in leading an activity at different times.

Cubs will have many opportunities to earn badges for their uniform which they can wear with pride. They will also have opportunities to meet up with other cubs groups in Lucan and surrounding areas. We call these activities County events which in recent years have included bowling, fun activities days and cub quizzes. The County we belong to is called Liffey West which has a specially designed badge which cubs can also wear.

From time to time, we hold events with other sections of the 180th Lucan South Scout Group which allows cubs the opportunity to meet past leaders from their time in beavers as well as getting to know future leaders they may have when they move up to scouts and ventures.

We currently have six leaders who work together to provide an interesting and varied programme of activities both on and off-site. We also have a few other helpers who join us from time to time to add to our programme of activities.

At times we do have a waiting list but please do not let this put you off getting in contact with us so that you can let us know if you are interested in joining us.
